Emerald is a color that has consistently topped trend charts in recent times and its jewel-toned glamor is perfect for bedrooms with Hollywood Regency style. Malachite pattern and color is also a smart choice if you love that luxurious look in the bedroom while eclectic bedrooms drenched in green goodness steal the show with sheer audacity and flair.
Curvaceous and almost dizzying, this sculptural modern apartment located in West Melbourne resembles a contemporary art gallery. Transformed from a butter factory into an unconventional living space by the creative minds of Adrian Amore Architects, the place is intriguing to say the least. White walls throughout make a good background for twisted shapes and minimalist furniture. The color palette is kept simple- few objects disrupt the grandeur of the black and white duo- resulting in a sober, yet strangely appealing design scheme.
The first level is an open plan living and dining area- an almost surreal social zone, physically constructed using a powerful geometry. Some of the elements, such as the painted pipes and massive pendant lamps descending from the ceiling, give a way the building’s industrial heritage. The second floor accommodates the bedrooms. In between- a massive stairway that spirals all the way up to the roof deck. What do you believe are the perks and downsides to living in a place like this? [Photographer: Fraser Marsden]
The terms ‘contemporary’ and ‘modern’ are often used interchangeably when describing design. It’s a common faux pas and one of which this writer is certainly guilty. In design lexicon the two words have contrasting and quite distinct meanings. Describing their difference at a somewhat rudimentary level: contemporary makes reference to the present-day – that which is current and of the time – whereas modern alludes to the past, specifically that of Modernism (post the First World War) and mid-20th century modern design and architecture.
Casa Wo is a 250 square meter residence recently completed by SO Architecture in Kiryat Tivon, Israel. Built on a hard trapezoidal ground, the architecture of the house follows the contours of the terrain and its original crisscrossed layout provides a good inner communication between spaces. Concrete and stone were chosen for the exterior finishing touches, visually anchoring the house in its neighborhood.
The building is structured on two levels, with an elegant staircase connecting the interiors. The first level accommodates a large open plan living area, enriched by an inspiring texture variety and wall paintings. A table for six has a privileged location in the core of the ground floor composition, accompanied by large chandeliers that descend from the tall ceilings. Next to this, the architects envisioned another open space, especially designed for children. The second level accommodates the private areas: a large en-suite bedroom for the parents and three smaller rooms for the kids. [Photography: Shai Epshtein]

Probably one of the most interesting and nature oriented houses, the House 04 project, located in the sunny region of Osijek, Croatia, tries to establish a special relationship between man and nature, using the liveable space as a tool. The modern-edgy home, designed by Helena Alfirevic Arbutina showcases the duality of the human existence and the constant need of finding inner peace. There are two walnut trees that mark symbolically the entrance. The very fluid and organic shaped house comes with all sorts of ingenious details.
The house is divided in three wings. One of the side wings accommodates the garage and the bedrooms, while the opposite wing is reserved for children. The central wing, which is public, is ideal for welcome guests. The central wing is really interesting from an architectural point of view. The interior is rich in transparent area, so you can see everything around the house even from the upper level. The abundance of transparence also allows you to have a complete view over the courtyard. The white interior, with wooden details is adorned with a central, suspended fireplace, which adds a feeling of coziness. There are “earthy” details sprinkled around the house, such as the pebble-like carpet, a pebbles “passage”, as soon as you step inside the house and a small interior garden with white stones and small bushes behind a wall of glass. Really interesting and inspiring, the 04 House gives you the feeling that you are exploring the freshness of the outdoors, right in the intimacy of your home…

Contemporary bedrooms are all about a neutral color scheme that is accentuated by pops of color in an elegant fashion. These colorful additions can be often swapped out with ease to alter the appeal of the room and its color palette with changing trends and seasons. While blue is touted as the most popular hue in the bedroom irrespective of style and season, green is the ‘chosen one’ for those who want to bring a hint of natural goodness indoors. Relaxing, elegant, bright and refreshing, it is a pleasant hue that comes in diverse shades ranging from the brilliant jewel-toned emerald to more subtle and modest minty greens.
There are a few specific styles and themes which come alive in the bedroom with the addition of a green tinge. The first that comes to mind is here is the exotic tropical style. Whether you wish to combine a hint of tropical charm with modern aesthetics or want to create a guest bedroom that is full of tropical flair, green is the color to turn to. A splash of bright or mossy green can turn your boring bedroom into a fun and playful space that reminds of your recent holiday trip to a stunning tropical getaway. Another look that revels in green is the beach style and you can replace the traditional white and blue blend with white, green and a hint of orange to create a unique and exquisite bedroom.
